EMDR - Trauma Focused Therapy

“The best way out is through”

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a form of therapy designed to help people recover from traumatic events in their lives.  The events could be non-life-threatening events such as divorce, neglect, infidelity or bullying.  Or the events could be life-threatening events such as a natural disaster, terrorist attack, combat, rape, or a car accident.  Either types of trauma can have a significant impact on a person’s life if it is suppressed and/or not properly worked through.  This can be seen when the person makes sense of the situation by attributing a negative belief about themself such as “I’m in danger”, “It was my fault”, “I’m worthless”, “I am powerless”, “I deserved it” and these negative beliefs have been carried forward into present-day situations.

EMDR Sessions are usually between 1-1.5 hours long, and are charged at the rate of £70 per hour.  Depending on availability, EMDR is typically delivered once or twice a week for an average of 6-12 sessions.  However some people benefit from more and some people from less sessions depending on the trauma that they are processing.

If you’re unsure if EMDR is appropriate for you, don’t hesitate to get in touch or visit the information below to help you decide.
